February 2008

  • A letter received from Afghanistan 16th February 2008

I was the very lucky and fortunate recipient of the lovely parcel that you sent via our Chaplain.

I was given the parcel by the Chaplain last week and shared the contents around the guys here which were appreciated by all. It was extremely generous and warmly received and greatly appreciated this end.

It is nice to receive little luxuries as I am sure you are aware that it is very difficult to get anything at this end and just to think someone has gone to the effort of putting together something for us is very, very uplifting. It was extremely nice to have a cup of tea with some real milk along with some breakfast cereal, it made us really think that we were back home.

We are yet to have a water shortage which is the basic essential and as such makes our life bearable. Once again thank you from the bottom of my heart for the parcel, it really boosts morale to receive them, or mail, be it a letter, card or parcel. The delivery of mail when it arrives brings many smiles to many soldiers and is a joy and comfort to see.

    Kind Regards,
    Craig,
    WO1 Afghanistan

  • A card received from a Chaplain in Afghanistan 14th February 2008

Thank you so much for the wonderful selection of boxes that you sent out to us, you can be assured that each will find a good home! We really do appreciate all the time and effort that you and others have shown in doing them.

One of my colleagues here spent his childhood in Cuckfield, Lewes and Crowborough, so was very proud to see the people of Susses supporting us.

    Thanks Again,
    David,
    Garrison Chaplain

  • A letter received from Iraq 12th February 2008

    Dear Sue,

Today I have received a parcel via the Senior Chaplain, sent by you on behalf of the people of Sussex.

May I say many thanks for this, it is great to know that the people back home are thinking of us on operations and the contents of the parcel are gratefully received and most welcome. I have shared my wealth out in the Ops room.

Thanks again for everyones efforts and generosity.

    Regards,
    Jules,

  • A Letter Received 10th February 2008 from Iraq

I would like to thank you for the parcel I received today. It makes all the difference to know there are people like you back home who care. It doesn't matter how old you are, or how long you have been in the Forces, and a parcel from a person you don't know, but who clearly cares, really does make to your day and brings a smile to your face. We all believe we are making a difference out here, but that doesn't stop us thinking of our loved ones at home.

I hope to be home again by the start of May so only 3 months to do. Again I would like to send you a big thank you for the parcel, all of its contents will be used.

All the very best, stay safe.
    John

Just writing to say a very big thank you for all the sweets and goodies that you and others have taken the time to send out to us.

It was a nice surprise and brought a smile to mine and others faces. I have been here since November 2007 and it is nice to now people are thinking about us back home.

Anyway, thank you again and hope all is well back home,
    Alan
