October 2008

  • Received from Afghanistan October 2008

I am in Kandahar until the beginning of February so a long way to go yet. I thought I would write to let you know how gratefully received the boxes are.

We are able to buy some basic essentials but as a female it's nice to receive a few special smellies and toiletries.

This will be my 5th tour in recent years, but my first in Afghanistan.

I have previously been posted all over the world and unfortunately all my tours seem to run over Christmas. My job involves flying the injured from the battlefield in the Chinook to the military hospital and then arranging their transport back to the U.K.

I am always extremely busy which makes the tour go a lot quicker.

Thank you once again, sometimes the British Military do feel like we are forgotten in comparison to how the Americans are welcomed in their country. It's nice to know we are not!

    Thank you,
    Sgt R Army

On behalf of the boys and girls I'd like to thank you for your generosity in sending out the "goodies" to us.

Morale is high, not least because of the work you and the others at Thank The Forces do for us all.

It has been a good, but exhausting tour of duty, a true once in a lifetime experience for us all!

    Yours gratefully,
    Padre B Iraq

Thank you for your kind gifts. They were all gratefully received at the Military hospital in Basra where they were distributed and shared amongst the patients and the staff.

The worst of the heat has passed now that we are in October and it's a little more bearable that previously.

Thank you once again for your thoughts and good wishes that were very much appreciated as well as the parcels.

Thank you for the goody box that you sent out to Theatre. I and my team enjoyed the contents immensely. It is always nice to receive post and good wishes from home and we are all very grateful to you for going to the effort to send some much needed home comforts and morale.

Rest assured that we are in good spirits and that support form home matters to us all. It is comforting to know that what we are doing is out here is understood and valued by all in the UK.

    With Best Wishes,
    LT Colonel F

I would like to thank you for the parcel you sent. I write on behalf of all the females that I work with. The parcels make life a little easier and also give us a sense of home in a way we all look forward to. Its like Christmas has come early and we never know what is going to be in them.

Thank you for taking the trouble to put the parcels together; they are massively appreciated by everyone.

Thank you so much for your support,
    Lcpl P
