  • W.I. Ladies Luncheon Raises Funds For Thank The Forces

Ladies from the Seaford branch of the W.I recently held a Charity Luncheon in aid of Thank The Forces Charity.
The ladies pulled out all the stops and raised a massive total of £620.00 in their aptly titled 'Chocolate Run Luncheon'.

The ladies of the W.I also held a ‘decorate a box for a soldier’ competition and Thank The Forces representative and volunteer Norma Holt was asked to judge the best decorated box.
Norma said ‘All the boxes were beautiful, and such works of art, it was really hard to choose which one should win,  I chose three of the best, one that was covered with hand made quilting, it must have taken hours and hours to create the quilting and then cover the box, one covered in beautiful flowers  that will remind our troops of the greenery and colour of home, and one covered in chocolate wrappers, that may cause the recipient to have a bit of a drool, but we will send it for Christmas when temperatures are cooler and we can fill the box with lots of lovely chocolate!’

Grateful thanks must go to Ann Stock of the Seaford W.I who organised and ran the luncheon that ensured everyone had great food, great company and also raised such a large amount of money for a great cause.

  • Thank The Forces Charity Van Appeal - A Great Success

Polegate volunteer Helen Kitcher decided to diet for sponsorship whilst her son James was serving with PWRR in Iraq. Helen decided to diet for 12 weeks and lost a massive 23 pounds in weight. Helen campaigned friends, neighbours’, family and local businesses asking for sponsorship to pay for a Thank The Forces Charity the van.
After reading about the diet, many of you sent cheques and this boosted the total raised by Helens van appeal diet to £2920.00p

The money has now been used to purchase a lovely Mercedes Sprinter medium wheelbase van and there was also enough left over to insure the van for a year as well.
Helens brother Trevor is ex Forces and managed to get the van sign written for free by local businessman Tony Hylands who runs Ensign Signs of Eastbourne.
The van will be used for collecting gifts and donations and also for transporting fundraising and awareness equipment to shows and fetes around the County.
Well done and thank you to Helen and also to all of you who were kind enough to add to the appeal.
